Kathrin Wörwag's artistic practice is characterised by social issues, which she often combines with site-specific situations and local practices. By shifting contexts, she places supposed boundaries - for example between private and public, inside and outside or between ecology and economy - in a field of tension. In this way, she evokes changes of perspective that transform ideas, language(s), spaces and objects into an open communication process. She is also interested in a deeper understanding of creativity that addresses everyone, not just artists: How can we activate ourselves and involve each other creatively? In order to find this out, Wörwag constantly takes on the role of a mediator and works with an expanded concept of art, which she explores beyond the boundaries of institutional art spaces in everyday and social contexts or work contexts, often together with other actors. Wörwag works in a transdisciplinary manner and involves, for example, people in urban areas, school pupils and teachers in everyday school life, and stakeholders in companies in its projects. With her art, she creates opportunities to learn from others. Her work focuses on polyphonic processes, temporary laboratories, performative interventions, informal forms of knowledge, artistic research and various formats of dialogue and interaction.

Spinball, 2023
Kathrin Wörwag’s action “Spinball” refers to the yarn production of the company Heinrich Otto & Söhne from 1861 - 2020 on the site of the Neckarspinnerei. The artist can be seen slowly rolling a red spool of yarn through the empty former factory premises with her feet as she walks.
